Welcome to the first episode of The Filmlings Podcast! This is a brand new auditory adventure that I am undertaking with my long-time friend Alex Geringer. This podcast will be a way for us to explore and discuss cinema in all its dimensions.
Here’s how it works. Each week we will be watching two or three films which are related in some way, be it by director, an actor, a common theme, etc. Then we will take some time to discuss the films in a podcast format. We will be releasing the next week’s films the week before for anyone who would like to follow along.
For the first week we watched a smattering of films across Steven Spielberg’s career: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Always (1989), and Lincoln (2012). We discuss how Spielberg starts his movies to set up the rest of the film, fleshing out minor characters, and the expansive and impressive career of one of the greatest modern directors.
